At Open Window School, we believe that students are children first, gifted second. From kindergarten through eighth grade, our students dive deep, think big, and grow in ways that are exciting and meaningful. 
 

If you're exploring Open Window, you're likely wondering: Will my child  be understood here? Will they be challenged in the right ways? Will they find their people?

We’re glad you're asking those questions, because we’ve built our community with them in mind. 
 

Our teachers know what it means to teach gifted learners, from five years old to fourteen. And, more importantly, they love it. They embrace advanced skill levels, but also the curiosity, quirks, questions, intensities, and uneven social-emotional development that sometimes comes with it. We welcome it, we plan for it, and we support every student as they grow into confident, compassionate thinkers with a bias for action to make positive change. 
 

Each year, we welcome new students at all grade levels. Common entry points into our program include Kindergarten, and 5th/6th grade, though we typically have a few seats available at other grade levels. 

Whether your child is entering lower school or middle school, they’ll find space here to explore deeply and speak up boldly. And whether they’re driven by curiosity, justice, invention, or imagination, they’ll be met with both high challenge and high support.
 

At Open Window School, we use a holistic review process, meaning that we are looking for students who are the best fit for our program, not just those with the highest scores. We look for applicants who: 
 

• Are curious and love to ask questions, even (and especially) the big ones with no easy answers
• Show creative thinking and problem-solving in everyday ways
• Demonstrate emotional insight, empathy, or a strong sense of justice
• Thrive when challenged and are willing to try, fail, and try again
• Are excited about learning, not just achieving
• Would benefit from being in a community of peers who think deeply and think differently
• Bring their whole selves to school and value others who do the same
• Score in the 95th percentile or above on an IQ test

We understand that giftedness comes in many forms. That’s why we look beyond numbers to get to know each child as a thinker, learner, and human being.
